JoAnn Milton

JoAnn, affectionately known as “The Queen-Ms. JoAnn” was born December 3,1933 to the late George “Shag” Barnett and Jimmie Lee Cooper Barnett of Warren, AR has received her wings on August 25,2022. Joann accepted Christ at an early age in life. She attended BTU, Sunday School, etc. She affectionately enjoyed attending her hometown services, community and church events, The Singing Center and affectionately attending and listening virtually to services from Pastor Philip L. Pointer, St. Mark Baptist Church, Little Rock, AR. She attended schools in the Warren, Bradley, and Pulaski Counties School Districts, etc respectively. JoAnn was a member of the Visiting Nurses Association, Advandt Garden Club, Twin City Maladies Club, The Calvalettes Social Club, NAACP, Horace Mann-Dunbar Alumni Association, volunteered for numerous community events, coordinating many events and activities for children and family. She was an active registered voter and an avid “personal- world analyst and commentator on current events” and gave her personal opinion! Joann was the owner of JM Janitorial Services; worked for Rabbi Ira Sanders for many years as his nurse; worked with EEOC before retirement, worked as a screen printer for ArtCrest Printing; worked in catering; seamstress for Kellwood Industries, Garment Handler for National Linen Services, waitress for The Green Door Club; employee of Sally’s Beauty Supply Store, etc. She enjoyed cooking (especially her Gumbo and seafood boils, Thanksgiving Dinner, smothered potatoes (…Nikki, “Remember always start with a cold skillet!”), entertaining, spending time and having fun with her family and friends; traveling, playing Tunk playing cards…Hmmm! Dominoes, Solitaire game and gardening, tending to her plants, etc. She loved dancing, listening to blues music, etc. She affectionately loved her previous pets Snowflake, Chow, and Barron. JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory; her children, William Smith, Jr. (Carolyn), Rodger Milton(Sandy), Benita Milton, Gabi Fair, all of Little Rock, AR and Marvin Vaughn, of Los Angeles, California and Vegas; two special nieces, Linda “Dipsey” Moore Starks (George) of Ponder, TX and Nicole Acklin, of Little Rock, AR and a very special aunt, Ruby Jean Ray, of Raliegh, North Carolina; Siblings, James “Jay” Johnson,of Lancaster, California, Bobby Maxwell, Robert Maxwell(Cynthia),Greg Avery(Terri), all of Little Rock AR, Betty Nealy Bourland,of Palmdale, California, Annette Johnson, Sandra Maxwell Rountree, all of Little Rock, AR, Lynda Avery-Burse,of Wilmar, AR, Barbara Avery-Williams, of North Little Rock, AR; six grandchildren and at least 27 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former coworkers and neighbors.
