Ms. Ruby Lockhart

Ruby Lockhart was born June 6, 1931, in Moro, Arkansas to the parents of Hattie Norman and Willie Norman. She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 siblings, Cleora Burton, Lulla Bell Bright, Ella B. Stover, Francis Dickerson, Alberta Edwards (Sweet Peaches), Willie Norman, Arthur Peter Norment, Daniel Lee Norman, and Earl Norman. Ruby Lockhart leaves to cherish her memory, one sister; Carrie Mae Russell, and two brothers; Earnest Norman and Worchester Wims. In her early years, she married John Lockhart who departed this life in 2024. They lived, and worked in Moro for several years. Her husband wanted to experience life in the city, so they moved to Memphis, Tennessee. After several years they relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas where they raised 7 children. Larry Lockhart, Reginald Lockhart (Ella), Sandra Burnett, Sharon Williams (Donald), Lorraine Taylor (Willie), Lockhart (Viola) and Jerry Lockhart (Deborah). Ruby Lockhart received her GED in the 1960’s and she received her driver license in the 1970’s. She was a very independent woman. She was employed by Trinity Court Nursing Home as a cook. After several years she became a dietician at the Arkansas State Hospital in Little Rock where she retired after being employed for 28 years. During her lifetime she supported her family by working two jobs. Ruby was not ready to retire, so she became a care giver for Care Link. She loved to travel to St. Louis, MO. and Chicago, Illinois to visit her siblings. She became a lifetime member of Duncan United Methodist Church where she devoted her time on the usher board and sang in the choir. She attended Duncan United Methodist Church for 50 plus years. Her favorite pastime was cooking for her friends and family. Her favorite dishes to make were candy yams, lemon cake and fried fish. Her peach cobblers were very enticing. She loved flowers and outdoor activities. She especially loved growing red roses near her front porch. Whenever someone needed a place to stay or came to visit down south, they were always welcome in her home. Ruby Lockhart departed this life March 18, 2025, at her home where she lived for 53 years. She accepted her religious faith at an early age, and she was ready to go home. Ruby is survived by her 7 children, and was also blessed with 35 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
